China’s BYD just dropped a bomb on the hypercar world. Their luxury arm, Yangwang, pushed the U9 Track Edition to a wild 293.54 mph at Germany’s Papenburg test track—making it the fastest electric car on the planet.
Breaking Records
Pro driver Marc Basseng was behind the wheel, smashing his own 233 mph run from last year. That not only blew past his old record but also topped the Rimac Nevera R (268 mph) and Aspark Owl (272 mph).
Power and Tech
This beast runs four electric motors putting out nearly 3,000 hp. It rides on a 1200V platform (a first for a production EV) with advanced torque-vectoring that constantly shifts power between wheels for max grip. The suspension also adjusts on the fly to keep things planted at crazy speeds.
Track-Ready Setup
For aerodynamics, the Track Edition ditches the big rear wing, adds a carbon splitter, and rolls on custom semi-slick Giti tires. Everything is tuned for one thing: going stupid fast.
Why It Matters
At almost 294 mph, the U9 Track Edition isn’t just an EV record breaker—it’s in hypercar territory, period. Rimac, Aspark, and even gas-powered legends now have serious competition from Yangwang.
