This is the late-summer kind of news we can really get behind: a new Mustang convertible. And a very powerful one at that, as in 795 horsepower. That’s right, the Dark Horse SC has spawned a convertible, and it’s just as powerful as the coupe.
Just like the coupe, the 2027 Dark Horse SC Convertible is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that produces 795 horsepower and 660 pounds-feet of torque that’s paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
No pricing has been announced, but Ford says ordering will begin this fall, and the car will begin arriving in dealerships in spring 2027. For reference, pricing for the Dark Horse SC Coupe, which went on sale earlier this year, starts at $106,090 ($144,910 CAD).

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 14, 2026 – The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible from Ford Racing is just around the next turn.
The first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013 features unlimited headroom and zero barriers, allowing drivers to hear the uninhibited sound of its 795 horsepower1, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 while cruising an oceanside highway or navigating nighttime urban streets. Orders open this fall.
While the new Mustang Dark Horse SC coupe is engineered to be the most track-capable Dark Horse ever, the Dark Horse SC convertible brings head-turning style and power to enthusiasts who prefer the wind in their hair.
“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Racing. “It's just pure fun, fast, freedom.”
Starting with the Mustang GT 5.0-liter V8 convertible’s architecture, Ford Racing engineers have added a strong, lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine to help handle the power of the Dark Horse SC convertible’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8. This reinforcement is paired with a specially tuned, next-generation MagneRide® suspension, delivering a smooth, comfortable ride when cruising and a firmly planted feel the moment you lean into the accelerator.
“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”
The Dark Horse SC convertible brings a sleek, urban attitude to the Mustang lineup, offering a fresh take on the classic American drop top.
Dropping the roof with the touch of a button gives the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible a unique personality. Without a barrier between the driver and the sky, the cabin offers endless headroom and the full, unfiltered soundtrack of a deep V8 rumble mixed with the distinct whine of the supercharger. That V8 power is expertly managed by a fast-shifting, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
With its unmistakable sound, aggressive stance, and new colour options — including Precision Purple exterior paint, unique brake caliper colour, and premium interior details available in Black Onyx and Space Gray — the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible is designed to make a statement before, during, and after it is seen.
“We are giving a new generation of drivers a premium, high-performance street machine that is just as fun to be seen in as it is to drive,” said Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford Mustang brand marketing manager.
The Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible can be ordered starting in fall 2026 and arrives in dealer showrooms starting in spring 2027.
