Automotive builder and content creator Jimmy Oakes is set to unveil his latest project this weekend at Formula DRIFT Connecticut: a Ferrari-powered 1978 Porsche 911 SC known as the “Porrari.”
Built in partnership with ENEOS Motor Oil, the project combines a classic air-cooled Porsche chassis with a naturally aspirated Ferrari-built Maserati F136 V8 engine, creating one of the most unconventional engine swaps in recent memory. Fans attending Formula DRIFT Connecticut at Stafford Motor Speedway will be able to see the car on display in the ENEOS booth throughout the event.
The build centers around a 400-horsepower F136 flat-plane-crank V8 sourced from a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte. Installing the engine required a complete restoration and reengineering of the nearly 50-year-old Porsche, including extensive chassis repairs, custom fabrication, a bespoke wiring system, and a custom drivetrain solution pairing the V8 with a Porsche 996 transmission.
To maximize performance, Oakes upgraded the engine with individual throttle bodies adapted from the BMW E90/E92 M3’s S65 V8, helping improve throttle response while delivering an unmistakable soundtrack as the engine climbs to its 8,000-rpm redline.
Additional modifications include a front-mounted cooling system, custom Stance Suspension coilovers, a full roll cage, widened steel fenders, and RAYS VRX-10 wheels wrapped in Accelera 651 Sport tires. Braking duties are handled by Porsche Boxster four-piston Brembo calipers at all four corners.
“This build wasn’t about taking the easy route,” said Oakes. “It was about building something that makes people take notice and then showing them how we did it. In my opinion, it’s projects like this that keep car culture exciting.”
As an ENEOS brand ambassador, Oakes selected ENEOS engine and transmission lubricants for the build. The company will showcase the Porrari alongside appearances from Formula DRIFT drivers Fredric Aasbo and Collete Davis during the inaugural Formula DRIFT Connecticut event.
“At ENEOS, we’re passionate about supporting builders and creators who challenge the status quo,” said Shunsuke Kuniyuki of ENEOS. “Jimmy’s Ferrari-swapped Porsche 911 is a perfect example of the innovation and craftsmanship that drive automotive culture forward and can inspire others to greatness.”
The Porrari will make its public debut at Formula DRIFT Connecticut at Stafford Motor Speedway from June 18-20. The complete build process has been documented on Oakes’ YouTube channel, where enthusiasts can follow the project from its initial teardown to final assembly.
