BMW took the wraps off its new BMW M Concept Neue Klasse during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, and the reaction came fast. Some loved it, some hated it, but almost everyone had something to say.

That may be the point. If BMW’s goal with its next-generation Neue Klasse design direction is to be provocative and mark a clean break from the M cars enthusiasts have known for decades, the company has already made its statement.

Officially called the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, the show car previews the future design language of BMW M. The concept also shares a clear visual connection with BMW’s new Neue Klasse sedan design direction, blending familiar M aggression with a cleaner, more technical shape.

According to BMW, the M Concept Neue Klasse represents “a new interpretation of dynamics, agility, and precision at BMW M,” with design and technology influenced by motorsport. BMW says the concept is intended to preview the look and direction of future M models.

BMW has not released specific powertrain details for the concept, but the Neue Klasse direction is expected to influence future M products across electrified and high-performance platforms.

The design will not be for everyone, and that may be what makes it interesting. BMW M has always lived in the space between tradition and disruption, and this concept makes it clear that the brand’s next era is not trying to quietly blend in.
