This is the first time an auto manufacturer’s own build has made one of our top choice lists, but in this case, Toyota deserves the recognition for the Tacozilla build. Built on a Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport by Toyota’s Motorsports garage, the Tacozilla’s camper portion contains a full bathroom and kitchen, and boasts an interior standing room that can accommodate people over six feet tall.
The camper cabin features a beautiful 3D-printed kitchen table that doubles as backlit wall art when it's stored in order to convert its space into more sleeping room. There is teak flooring throughout, a TV, and a pop-out skylight as well. The entire camper section itself is smoothed and narrowed to allow the Tacozilla to navigate off-road trails with camper intact.
The Tacoma itself is lifted about two inches for extra ground clearance, and it now sits on bronze TRD wheels wrapped in 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires. Less is more when it comes to a reliable off-road overlander. An extra battery was installed in the engine bay to power all of the additional upgrades.
The entire thing is finished off with a retro 1960s-1970s yellow, orange, and bronze color scheme inspired by the Toyota campers of those eras. While this truck is only a prototype, we hope this serves as inspiration for other Toyota overlander builds. Toyota knows their trucks are a popular choice in that scene, and they knocked it out of the park with Tacozilla. We love everything about it.
