DRIFT KING - Volume 8 Issue 3
Universal Pictures completed its tuner film trifecta with the release of The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, amounting to another blockbuster hit. Rather than blow the bank on Hollywood A-listers, Universal decided to recruit an all-star cast of professional drivers to capture the exciting world of drifting and some exciting cars. Well, several exciting cars, so they could burn and smash them like scenes from a video game. So what you see here is one (of several) Mazda RX-7 FDs with the outrageous VeilSide Fortune kit with deep dish VeilSide Andrew V wheels. A half dozen of these cars were destroyed during the stunts for The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and ended up scrap metal, this one survived and spawned a new look of VeilSide-inspired two-tone show cars for years to come.
Gold Digger - Volume 8 Issue 2
Frederick Nissan in Maryland isn’t your average dealership. The evidence can be found from wall-to-wall with countless highly-modified Nissan vehicles roaming the lot, showroom and shop areas. This particular 2003 Nissan 350Z is owner Gene Hickman’s creation and he wanted to show the world what his dealership was capable of in PAS Magazine first! With an influx of Zs on the scene at the time, Hickman was faced with the tough task of trying to set his Z33 apart from the crowd. Hickman felt that a strict diet of Top Secret gear for his Z would be the best way to go, integrating a crazy widebody kit. The VQ also received a GReddy twin turbo kit and the caged interior jammed with the hottest ground pounding MTX audio inside the cabin. The Z that truly had the best of everything had to make our top list.
Price Fighter - Volume 8 Issue 8
Imagine a group of the world’s famous artists coming together to create one masterpiece. Who knows what priceless work of art would be produced, had names like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Picasso and Rembrandt (had they all been alive at the same time) collaborated on such a project. Well, in the tuner world a few of Canada’s sharp shooters got together and discussed the possibility of collaborating on a project, joining forces, sharing resources and enjoying all of the accolades that come with it. Along with partners GM and Castol, the Top Tuner Team was formed to build their first ever collaborative project. The Team consisted of Tajai Das, Edmund Manasan, Keith Losier, Vito Ianniciello, Ben Woo, Serge Leger, Simon Rowe, Chris Nankoo and his father Lee. Rowetech, meantime, built up the LSJ motor with goodies from GM’s own Performance Parts catalogue. The engine was stroked to 2.2L and featured JE forged pistons with a boost-friendly 8.0:1 compression ratio. The exterior of the car was entirely redesigned using the Konigsegg CCX as an inspiration and the result speak for themselves. The team bagged three design awards at the unveiling during SEMA 2006 including the coveted GM design award.
