Garrett Unveils Next Generation of Turbo Performance and Mobile Support at SEMA

Garrett Turbochargers, the aftermarket turbocharging leader from Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Turbo Technologies, has something for everyone at SEMA this year featuring several all-new aftermarket turbo solutions for both daily drivers and racing professionals seeking increased performance as well as the online and mobile support necessary to make any upgrade a success.

Garrett is introducing three new GTX series turbochargers extending its dual ball-bearing lineup for road and rally racers, drifters and even daily drivers who are looking for more flow and power than the GT series turbochargers. All three feature: forged, fully-machined billet compressor wheels designed using next generation aerodynamics; 11 full-blade wheel design for improved efficiency; certified burst contained; and, dual ball bearing, oil and water-cooled CHRA for the reliability expected of Garrett turbochargers. Shipping in December, these turbos have different performance profiles:

  • The GTX2863R offers a good all-around choice for a responsive street- or track-driven
4-cylinder car up to around 450hp, or smaller V8 with twins up to 900hp.
  • The GTX2867R is best suited to those who want max peak power but cannot use a GT30R, or who desire to stay with an internal wastegate but make near 500hp (1000hp with twins). Drift cars and tightly-packaged V8 supercars come to mind.
  • The GTX3576R provides the power of the GT3582R in a GT30R package. Similar to the GTX3076R but with 6 percent to 8 percent greater turbo efficiency.

Garrett is also showcasing The Garrett® Evo X GTX Turbo Upgrade for Mitsubishi Evolution X owners wanting to improve the power of their vehicle over stock. Available now, this upgrade is a direct drop-in upgrade for the stock turbo as well as the previous Garrett GT30R upgrade turbo and fits all aftermarket components designed for use with the stock turbo.  The two upgrade kits feature a larger than stock turbine housing for enhanced flow and reduced back pressure, and a larger than stock compressor housing and compressor wheel for more power capability. The GTX3071R kit is capable of 560 horsepower, and the GTX3076R kit delivers up to 640 horsepower. Just like the new GTX turbos these have forged, fully-machined billet compressor wheels designed using next generation aerodynamics; dual ball bearing, oil and water-cooled CHRA; and are certified burst contained.

Garrett hasn’t forgotten the drag racing crowd either. The GTX5518R suits those racing 10.5” tire and Outlaw classes including NMRA, NMCA, PSCA, ADRL, and NHRA Pro-Mod. This turbo is outline interchangeable with our entire GT55R range and up to 15 percent higher pressure ratio capable of up to 1500 horsepower an 11 percent improvement over the previous GT5518R. Certified burst contained, these will be shipping to our sponsored racers in time for the 2012 race season.

Finally, Garrett has made it easier for anyone to get the turbo information they need. The Garrett® Boost Adviser is free and the first application allowing anyone to match a turbo quickly and easily right from the palm of their hand. Previously available for iPhones, Garrett is announcing its availability now at the Android Market for Android-run phones and tablets. Boost Advisor is now also available on the Web at www.turbobygarrett.com.
