When you want to get noticed you have to go big. Sure, we see many outrageous projects come across our desks but sorting through the ones with solid craftsmanship and everything in working order is a whole other issue. And on that note, we’d like to answer the question everyone asks when they see the latest creation built by the team at 20Hz Audio: yes, it runs!
“I wanted to ensure everything on this car worked as well as it looked” explains “Crazy” Frank Valenti, owner of 20Hz Audio. “I see so many projects that may look nice, but none of the engineered gadgets work properly and, more importantly, these cars don’t run or drive. This SRT-8 300C runs, drives and does great burn-outs. There are even a few YouTube videos we posted to prove it can really spin its rubber to the ground.”
A long time client of 20Hz Audio, enthusiast Kirk Bhagan has made several revisions to this car over the years. Now in its final stages of modification, there aren’t any other 300Cs that can come close to this masterpiece. The most dramatic move of the entire project was the carved roofline harkening back to the old Batmobile. A load of sheet metal is gone from the roof but reinforced structure metal has been added in the center to maintain rigidity. The work began with concept sketches that mocked up how a slammed and carved-up 300C should look. The entire interior was gutted and the major modification and structural work began. The highly custom pillarless doors received all new hinges designed with a dihedral operation up front and a suicide door hinges in the rear. The front end of the vehicle was extended downwards for a custom fabricated 20Hz billet grille. The custom front bumper and headlight housings were also customized and the hood features dramatic cut outs for display. The entire car was shaved smooth and uses door poppers to open the vehicle. Around the back of the car the smooth rear end features custom tail lights using GE lighting for its unique effect.
Under the hood, the engine bay was as insane as the exterior, clad in a matte beige coating that appears to be a leather wrap. Upon closer inspection you will notice everything is ghosted, wired, ABS, cooling, power steering and vacuum hoses have all been removed or relocated. The 6.1L Hemi now sports a BDS Stage 1 blower kit. The highly polished unit has been fitted with a BDS “bug catcher” intake and the Hemi drive kit. The engine was fitted with a polished BDS intake manifold and BDS fuel rails with larger injectors. A custom fabricated side exhaust and the lack of cats and resonators makes sure this puppy screams real loud!
A stylish set of 24-inch Asanti 3-piece AF128 wheels were custom painted to match and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero 275/25R24s. The suspension has been completely chromed and fitted with an Air Ride damper and twin 400 compressors. The car can ride high or lay frame at the flick of a switch. The brakes are Brembos with full chrome rotors all around.
Inside the car, nothing from the existing vehicle remains except for the windshield! As you might have noticed, this vehicle no longer has a steering wheel, as it’s now driven by a small removable billet wheel on the center console! The seats have been chopped and reupholstered in fine leather and every panel has been given the leather or suede wrap treatment. A full custom dash and center console house the new switches and controls, plus an Apple iPad dock! The iPad is installed into the dash, allowing for full control over audio, video and navigation for the vehicle. A custom built actuator automatically pops the side of the dock out and the iPad can be slipped in and out with ease for portability.
In the rear section of the vehicle, a large suede covered enclosure houses loads of the latest Sony Xplod audio products. In addition to the integrated iPad, the other source unit is the Sony XNV-770BT double-DIN audio video receiver with navigation. The signals are fed to a pair of Sony Xplod XMZR704 4-channel amps driving Sony Xplod XS-GTR1720 2-way speakers and XS-GTR-1720S component speakers to handle the highs and lows. The sub components are set in the doors and the Sony XS-HS20S tweeters are up front to blast high notes at lucky occupants. The lows are pounded out using Sony Xplod XM-ZZR3301 mono amps driving four ground-pounding 12-inch Sony XS-LDL26P5 subwoofers in the rear area. Between the audio gear is a NOS bottle and the requisite Sony PS3. Plus, a total of 18 LCD monitors are stashed around the project to relay video signals, with the secret weapon residing in the trunk. At the flick of a switch, a 42-inch LCD TV rises from the trunk to wow the crowds.
Couple all of the engineering 20Hz did for the vehicle with an outrageous strobe and lighting system and the project is sure to be noticed wherever it goes. The project demands a second look at every show it travels to, and has earned a boatload of awards to prove it. Be sure to check out the YouTube videos of this 300C laying down a burnout and going for a cruise on the street with the man they call “Crazy” behind the wheel!
