If you have been following TSW Wheels for a while, you’ll know there is a reason why they name all of their wheels after racetracks around the world. The company has been around for decades and continues to stay current with their designs and technology in an increasingly crowded market. Their latest wheel, the Interlagos is a prime example of the company’s philosophy and offers a glimpse into what you can expect from TSW for 2011 and beyond.
The wheel is named after a world class track in Brazil called the Autodromo Interlagos. The parallels between the race track and the wheel are more than just a name because these wheels are designed to be tortured on track and the new forged wheel manufacturing process is the next logical step. Last year, our Annual UHP Tire Test was brought to you by TSW and we were the first to test the Nurburgring forged wheel on our S2000.
The advanced manufacturing process ensures the Interlagos is stronger and lighter than its cast predators. It utilizes ‘Rotary Forging’, a process where the rim of the wheel is forged out at high pressure, while the wheel is being spun at high speeds. Forged wheels can take the constant pounding of bouncing off the rumble strips on a mission. They also handle the rigors of everyday driving, like potholes and other road imperfections, better than cast. The weight savings are substantial as well and, as a general rule, reducing rotating mass by one pound is equivalent to about seven pounds of dead weight! The weight reduction frees up torque and allows cars to accelerate harder out of the corner and off the line.
The wheel itself is a classic multi-spoke look with a slight curve just before the barrel. The Interlagos is available in all 5-bolt patterns in an array of staggered sizes: 17x7.5, 17x8, 17x8.5, 17x9, 18x8, 18x8.5, 18x9, 18x9.5, 18x10, 18x10.5, 19x8, 19x8.5, 19x9, 19x9.5, 19x10, 19x10.5, 20x8.5, 20x9, 20x9.5, 20x10, 20x10.5 and 20x11 and now in 22-inch 22x9.0, 22x10, 22x10.5 and 22x11!
The Interlagos is available in a two distinct finishes: matte black, and silver with mirror-cut face to create a stylish, functional and affordable wheel.
