Brendan Siu was after a car that could do it all – a well-rounded vehicle with power, practicality, and show potential all in one. It wasn’t long before he found himself drawn to the Mitsubishi Evolution, a vehicle known for it’s well-roundedness and performance potential. “At the time (2010) Evo IX’s were very rare in Canada,” Siu tells us, reminiscing about the days before he picked up his project, “as they just turned legal to import in 2008.”
Once his Evo IX was in his possession, he went through a couple of aesthetic phases, but always kept things relatively practical. Siu says he went through a phase of stance and stretched tires, but since then has gone for a fully functional, track-ready setup to complement the car’s history and prowess. That’s a promising sign from someone on their very first serious build.
The Voltex Cyber aero was inspired by the original Cyber Evo from Japan, a build which Siu idolized and tried to emulate when building his own iteration of the Evo IX. The car has been modified inside and out for a full function-built look and feel, with some extra audio components for daily musical enjoyment.
Siu uses the car for what it was meant to be used for – driving! This is no show queen or garage-kept paperweight. It gets driven daily. “I use this car as my daily driver, hockey gear hauler, mobile detail vehicle for my company (ProjectDetail), track car, and show car all in one!” he says. That is the kind of enthusiasm we can get behind. Keep up the good work!
