Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. unveiled its new TS-W311D4/S4 and TS-W261D4/S4 Champion Series subwoofers and GM-D1004 4-channel amplifier designed to provide high sound quality, with simplified and easy integration. The latest Champion Series subwoofers feature key technologies, including Pioneer’s patented IMPP composite cone, highly rigid five-spoke cone design, large double stacked magnets, and a new extremely stiff, enclosed basket, to produce bass output with incredible impact and accurate sound quality. Pioneer also introduces the GM-D1004 amplifier, Pioneer’s first entry into the growing micro amplifier category, which produces sound quality and output that defies its small size. With features like speaker level inputs and signal sensing power management, the GM-D1004 simplifies integration into both aftermarket and OEM entertainment systems.
“Most cars on the road today were designed to maximize passenger and cargo room without compromising performance, efficiency or quality. We created the new Champion Series subwoofers and the GM-D1004 amplifier with the same design goals in mind,” said Ted Cardenas, vice president of marketing for the Car Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “These products feature high output and high sound quality while simultaneously offering installation flexibility due to the small physical space requirements.”
Champion Series Subwoofers
The new 10- and 12-inch Champion Series subwoofers are available in single and dual 4-ohm voice coil versions. Each subwoofer incorporates a newly designed five-spoke IMPP cone to significantly reduce structurally weak areas that may produce unwanted resonance. The odd number of spokes used in the design, in conjunction to the depth of the cone, dramatically increase rigidity to withstand cone flex even at extremely high sound pressure levels, resulting in clear and rhythmic bass response.
The subwoofers also feature a newly designed enclosed basket to strengthen the chassis and increase its transient response. The one-piece, highly rigid pressed steel basket used to fully enclose and clamp the motor structure together, resists vibration and helps to control and drive the cone during normal activity. Air vents were incorporated into the basket and the spider holder to improve airflow and reduce the rise in temperature within the motor structure and the voice coil. Additional features in the subwoofer’s construction include a newly shaped “flat-less” spider, pole yoke, and speaker surround.
The Champion Series subwoofers will be available in November with suggested retail prices starting at $100.
GM-D1004 Class FD Amplifier
The extremely compact GM-D1004 4-channel amplifier utilizes class D technology for high power output with maximum efficiency. Measuring only 7-inches in width, 1.5-inches in height, and 2.6-inches in depth, the amplifier can produce up to 45 watts x 4 at 4 Ohms or 90 watts x 2 at 4 Ohms (bridged).
The micro chassis design of the GM-D1004 makes it exceptionally easy to install and can fit behind the dash of most vehicles. The GM-D1004 also features speaker level inputs and signal sensing power management that automatically switches between on and sleep based on the presence of input signal input. These features simplify integration into existing aftermarket or factory installed (OEM) entertainment systems. The highly efficient class D amplifier topology requires only 15 amps of current to achieve full rated output driving all four channels and can be tied into the radio power harness of most vehicles.
The GM-D1004 amplifier will be available in November with a suggested retail price of $150.
