How KW Suspensions' V5 Coilovers Met the Original NSX

How KW Suspensions' V5 Coilovers Met the Original NSX

The Honda NSX, a mid-engine sports car that has captivated car enthusiasts since its debut, made a significant mark in automotive history. Produced from 1990 to 2005, it was the first production vehicle to feature aluminum bodywork. The NSX's wide track and low body design represented the pinnacle of motorsport technology during its era. This car, famously associated with Ayrton Senna, integrated groundbreaking technology that set it apart from other production cars of the early nineties. In recent years, the first two generations of the Honda NSX (NA1 and NA2) have seen a resurgence in popularity. Enthusiasts have driven up prices for special editions to levels comparable to real estate, reflecting the car's status as a modern classic.

KW Suspensions has long offered the KW V3 and KW V3 Clubsport kits for the NSX. But following the release of the KW V5 coilover suspension kit for the Porsche Carrera GT in 2024, there was significant demand from Honda enthusiasts in Japan and the USA for a similar kit tailored to their Acura NSX and Honda NSX models.

Now, the KW V5 suspension is available for all Acura NSX and Honda NSX (NA1 and NA2) models. This suspension kit is derived from KW's racing suspensions, utilized in customer racing programs for brands like Aston Martin, BMW, and Porsche. Despite its racing pedigree, the KW V5 suspension maintains the NSX’s comfort and usability, providing a harmonious driving experience over various road conditions.

The advanced damping technology in the KW V5 is a key factor behind its performance. KW Displacement Piston Technology (Solid Piston Technology) ensures that the suspension absorbs road irregularities smoothly, even with minimal suspension travel. Unlike conventional dampers, this system uses hydraulic columns and specialized valve parts to enhance the damper's effectiveness.

The KW V5 offers four-way adjustability, allowing for fine-tuning of high-speed and low-speed compression and rebound settings. With 13 clicks each for these adjustments, drivers can tailor their suspension setup to be either more comfortable or sportier, depending on their preferences. Regardless of the chosen damping setup or road conditions, the KW V5 suspension enhances the dynamic feel of the classic Honda NSX.

This upgraded suspension also improves the steering precision and handling, providing greater safety reserves even at the vehicle’s limits. The KW V5 allows for significant lowering, adjustable between 35 and 55 millimeters, as specified in the parts certificate.
